LAUNCH ANIMALS COUNT MAJOR SUCCESS
The launch of the new
political party Animals Count yesterday at the Christmas Without
Cruelty Fayre at Kensington Town Hall, 12.30PM was a major
success.
About 200 delegates were present and responded very positively to
the speech of founder Jasmijn de Boo, the panel discussion with
Animals Count members Andrew Knight and Alex Bourke, and the
closing remarks of one of the two Dutch MPs for the Party for the
Animals, Esther Ouwehand, who touched all with her account of the
recent victory for the Party for the Animals in the
Netherlands.
The BBC covered the launch on radio and TV all day.
Preceding the launch several interviews had already been broadcasted on BBC Breakfast TV, Radio 5 Live and BBC World Service. The launch in the small hall drew in crowds of potential supporters and media.
The question and answer session with the panel dealt with interesting issues on policies other than animals, whether Animals Count would contest against Green Party members, and what Animals Count thinks of violent methods employed by some animal rights activists.
The leaflets and membership forms vanished minutes after the launch and over 80 emails in support of the new initiative were sent via the website in the first 24 hours.
